I was a bit apprehensive when I was told that I have a blog in IBS website. Infact, not just me. All academicians and maybe some admin staff have their own site, and one of the page is a blog page. Okay, before I make some of you confuse with the jargon..let me explain briefly about the tech terms:
Website: a connected group of pages on the World Wide Web regarded as a single entity, usually maintained by one person or organization and devoted to a single topic or several closely related topics. www.business.utm.my is a url of a website
Web page:A Web page is an individual HTML document. So a page is part of a site.
A static web page (sometimes called a flatpage/stationary page) is a web page that is delivered to the user exactly as stored, in contrast to dynamic web pages which are generated by a web application. in a website, About Us, Staff are usually a static page. Blog is dynamic.
Ngertik buk? Now, let’s proceed…
Who reads your journal article, or well..how many people actually reads your journal article. Yes, not that many. Most of the time our work will be cited by our colleagues. Thus blogging is essential platform to commercializes your work- in your own words- for public audience. We can’t wait for reporter from NST to interview us! Some paid them to write stories..save your money peeps, write your own story.
Ok, since this is an academic platform, designed for academic so it needs to sounds a bit academic..huh?! Writing for the mass public need to be fun and engaging. Yet meaningful. You don’t have to be here if you want to read some journal-type of writing styles- go and check Elsevier;-)
Anyhow, I leave you guys with this piece of writing which I personally think a good articulation on why academics should blog!
Till later!
