Gratitude is something many of us overlook. When saying “thank you” is no more a norm, that is when we should be really worried for our society, both current and future.

[su_pullquote align=”right”]“Showing gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful things humans can do for each other.” ― Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture[/su_pullquote]  Everybody likes to be appreciated. Gratitude, for the receiver is a cooling balm. It opens the heart and encourages one to keep on giving. Gratitude is the simplest way to pay it forward. Acts as simple as saying ‘Thank you‘ to the bus driver upon alighting, can warm the heart. While it is his job to drive that bus, it is our job to be polite.

[su_pullquote]Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “He has not thanked Allah who has not thanked people.”[/su_pullquote]

In the Quran there is a verse in Surah Al-Luqman that says: “Any who is grateful does so to the profit of his own soul” (full verse below). When our soul is going to gain profit, how can we not strive to be more grateful in our lives. Show gratitude towards what is received, no matter how big or small. If you are given a kidney, show gratitude. If you are given a candy, do the same.

If you are a parent, teach your child by example. If you are leader, show gratitude as acknowledgement. If you are an employer, increase loyalty and productivity through gratitude and acknowledgement.

It is but a simple thing, but its impact is positively anything but.
