Reading is a great hobby and should be encouraged. The advent of smart devices such as tablets and e-readers (like Kindle) makes reading more enjoyable with a wide selection of books on hand any time, and reading that can be done virtually anywhere. You can also have  a big selection of reading materials – news, magazine, books. Many have adopted this new reading alternative. [su_pullquote]I personally do enjoy reading, especially a good story, as it do let me visit places I have yet to be physically if ever. It does bring one back through time and space, ‘seeing’ things from somebody else’s view.[/su_pullquote]

Unfortunately, while reading is a great hobby, reading in the dark is not healthy for your eyes as it can strain your eyes. Some studies says it can lead to headaches, poor sleep, heart disease and depression. Other studies say it does not really do that much difference to your eyes. I say, caution is best. Do not strain your eyes too much, do not lose sleep that you need either. All things in moderation.

It also helps to get some anti-glare help for your device when you are reading. Twilight is such an app. I just recently tried it out as I experience a lot of headaches recently. Twilight can be found at the Google app store.

It filters the flux of blue light emitted by your phone or tablet after sunset and protects your eyes with a soft and pleasant red filter. The filter intensity is smoothly adjusted to the sun cycle based on your local sunset and sunrise times.[/su_quote]

You can give it a try and see if it helps. But as far as technology can help, a good practice to preserve your health is even better.
