The ITV News site brought forward steps to protect yourself from cyber criminals. This came after the UK government announced a £1.9bn of funding to protect the country from cyber-attacks.

Among the steps introduced were tried and true gems that have been hammered into anyone and everyone willing to listen. These include:

  • Keep your secret, secret. This is especially true of your critical and important information.
  • Have a password, a strong password. Remember the three little piggies. A house of straw is not as strong as one made of bricks. Cyber wolfs are coming to get you.
  • Ensure that all devices connected to the cyberspace is protected. As we go into the world of IOE (or IOT); this cannot be more true or more important to take note of.
  • Free things online usually comes with a BIG price. Yes we as human beings love free stuffs, but have the mind to at least check out the validity of said free stuff. Downloaders beware.
  • Antivirus and firewalls is a must. Invest a little for a greater peace of mind.
  • Beware of public WIFI, especially if you don’t know who it belongs to. Hansel and Gretel went into a free house of candy and nearly became lunch!
  • Be on the know and on the alert. Read a little. Attend a short course or at least spend some minutes engaging your mind with some knowledge that could clearly safe you and your loved ones, as they traverse the never ending perils of cyberspace.
