If you are a fan Star Wars, lightsabers do not need any introduction. If you are not familiar of what it is and what it is used for, read on. A lightsaber is generally used for both combat and defense. It is the weapon of the Jedi, who uses his mastery and knowledge to safe himself and others.
A lightsaber is not like a sniper gun which can be used from afar. Instead, it is a weapon for hand-to-hand fight; be it with one opponent or many.
[su_pullquote]Soft skills are to students, what lightsabers are to Jedis.[/su_pullquote] Soft skills are your weapon for hand-to-hand, or rather face-to-face scrimmage in your career and professional environment. While technical skills are the core of what you are and what you can do, without soft skills to show them off; you may never be able to showcase your true technical prowess.
Here are some soft skills you need to acquire before setting off into the real world, where competition is the norm.
How do you acquire these skills? You get them by doing. You can read a thousand cookbooks, but unless you actually cook, you cannot say you have the skills.
#Step 1: Learn how to do it. How to communicate effectively? How to be good in English or Bahasa Malaysia? Google it. Find instructional videos on YouTube. Attend a course or a workshop.
#Step 2: Practice it. Now that you know how, practice. Volunteer to be the leader. Put up your hand and answer a question, or even ask a question.
#Step 3: Learn from your mistakes. Never be scared to make mistakes. That is actually a great way to learn. Just remember, don’t wallow in your mistakes but learn from it. Be better.
#Step 4: Teach others. Now that you have the skill, share your knowledge and experience. It will give you confidence and a joyful heart.
#Step 5: Expand your knowledge. Find new ways to do something better. Why stay stagnant when you can be great!
Coming up: Unveiling the soft skills and what it means to you in your job.
