JOHOR BAHRU, 12 Oktober 2016 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Lekir Energy Sdn. Bhd. to allow collaboration in the field of oil and gas drilling fluid engineering and consultancy.
The agreement was signed by the Deputy Vice Chancelor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail while Lekir was represented by their Cheif Executives Officer, Abu Talib Abd. Rahman.
Prof. Fauzi in his press conference after the ceremony at Main Meeting Room, Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building, Johor Bahru campus said that upon the signing of the agreement, both parties have agreed to carry out through such activities relating to Research and Development (R&D), Project Commercialization, Consultation, Knowledge- Application, Commercialization and Research Grant Acquisition.
“The scope of collaboration also includes On-Site Industrial Attachment, Students Supervision and any other related field in future by mutual agreement.
“We are pleased to inform that the collaboration with Lekir Energy has been very frutiful, as such UTM-Malaysian Petroleum Research Centre (MPRC) Institute for Oil and Gas (UTM-MPRC) has successfully secured the Malaysian-Thailand Joint Authority (MTJA) fund entitled Palm Oil Derivatives and Oleo-Chemical for Drilling Operation,” said Prof. Fauzi.
This MTJA fund was awarded to UTM-MPRC and has given much benefit to the university itself from this initiative.
“A research cess fund amounting RM 2.16 million has been allocated by the Malaysia Thailand Joint Authority (MTJA) for UTM-MPRC to undertake this particular research.
“I believe that this collaboration and subsequent outputs will drive both UTM and Lekir Energy towards excellence and make significant contributions towards nation building and universal prosperity,” said Prof. Fauzi.
Also attending the cermony was Director UTM-MPRC, Prof. Dr. Rahmat Mohsin.
