UTM-UAV CAMAR

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) design project was initiated by Prof Ir Dr Shuhaimi Mansor in 2007 at UTM AeroLab. To date, our UTM AeroLab design group, headed by Ir. Dr.-Ing. Mohd Nazri bin Mohd Nasir is the pioneer institution of aircraft design in Malaysia especially Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) which also well known by the public as the drone. We have a lot of experience and well-proven track record in providing a complete design of mid-range Unmanned Aerial System. UTM Aerolab collaborate with Unmanned Systems Technology Sdn Bhd (UST) to upgrade Aludra MK-01 design for extended endurance. We developed series of UTM unmanned aircraft known as CAMAR to accommodate end-user requirements. Our team members involved in all stages including aircraft sizing and conceptual performance estimations, stability and control analysis, exploration on various UAS airframe designs and system integration, airframe structure fabrication and assembly of propulsion system, installation of navigation systems and aerial imaging equipment, bench calibration and ground testing and finally, flight testing and flight data analysis. Our 2.5-meter wingspan CAMAR has a great commercialization value for the local and international market. It has great potential for commercialization that mostly comes from the defense industry and local authorities that require a highly sophisticated operating unmanned system to serve the nation’s need. This includes protection from invasion of foreign forces, pirate activities and smuggling by providing surveillance and reconnaissance service, for example, Sabah’s ESSCOMM region. Recently, CAMAR prototype was displayed at Deftech’s booth at Defence Service Asia (DSA) 2018 in MITEC, Kuala Lumpur and received worldwide recognition. In addition, UTM Aerolab is the authorized operator of Mersing airstrips (02°23′00″N 103°51′34″E) which regularly use for pilot training and flight testing of the aircraft. The length of the runaway is 1200 feet and located by the seashore. UTM AeroLab has a long list of close partners and network including DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (DEFTECH), Composites Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM), OPO Sdn. Bhd., GeoSense Sdn. Bhd including several other government agencies.
