About

Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Nasef is currently a Professor at the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Department, Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is also a Deputy Director of Center of Hydrogen Energy at the same university. He also served as a professor at Chemical Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi Petronas for 5 years. He was also a visiting Professor at Kyushu University (Japan), the University of Surrey (UK) and Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland)

Prof. Nasef has vast experience in planning and execution of R&D in the field of functional polymeric materials for renewable energy and environmental applications. He pioneered research on fuel cell and hydrogen applications in mobility with late Prof. Hamdani Saidi. His research interests include but are not limited to the development of polymer electrolyte membranes, ion exchange resins, adsorbents, nanofibrous scaffolds, polymer catalysts and permeation membranes in addition to their uses in relevant applications such as fuel cells, PEM water electrolyzers, lithium & vanadium redox flow batteries and membrane separation processes at large. He is also specialized in polymer modifications with high energy radiation techniques.

Prof. Nasef is a member of the expert panel of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, in the field of radiation processing and degradation of polymers and he conducted several IAEA-expert missions in Turkey, China, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, and Thailand. He was also a chief investigator of the coordinated research projects (CRP) awarded by IAEA to Malaysia (2008-2010 and 2020-till now).

Dr. Nasef is an active member of various international scientific associations such as the Electrochemical Society, American Chemical Society, European Membrane Society, Institute of Chemical Engineers and Material Research Society. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Membrane Science, Journal of Technology and Technology and electronic Journal of applied electrochemistry.

Prof. Nasef published more than 160 articles in renowned international journals together with 14 book chapters, 14 major review articles and 4 edited books. He also delivered more than 100 talks at international conferences. His H-index is 40 and a total citation of 5326.
