Biography

Dr. Fairus completed a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical) from University of Wisconsin, Madison, United States. Upon graduation with a PhD degree from Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge in biodiesel combustion research (2014), Dr. Fairus has been actively involved in combustion research that involves single-discipline and multi-discipline projects.

Dr. Fairus has secured a total amount of RM 400,000 research grants that focus on the experimental and modelling studies of nanomaterial synthesis using flames. Three (3) projects have been completed with a patent filed in 2020. At present, he is leading a fundamental and R&D research on flame synthesis that has been awarded two FRGS grants and three internal grants. Dr. Fairus was awarded a Silver Medal in Industrial Art and Technology Exhibition (INATEX) in 2019. His research work was recognized as Best Paper and Best Presenter in international conference of IMAT 2018 and 2019 respectively. Being a member of Malaysia Nanotechnolgy Association, Dr. Fairus is expected to offer a big impact to the country ability to strive in nanotechnology business.

He has been appointed as the Chairman of Master Project Committee of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from 2017-2018. His leadership in research is displayed through managing High Speed Reacting Flow Laboratories (HiREF) as Deputy Head of Reserach Group since 2019. The research group consists of 6 faculty members, 11 PhD students, and 3 Master students. Two PhD and a Master student has graduated under his supervision. Dr. Fairus has published in 13 international indexed journals as corresponding authors. Dr. Fairus serves as reviewers and editors for international journals such as Evergreen and Applied Energy besides actively involved in international conferences as committee member of the International Meeting of Advances in Thermofluids (IMAT).

Dr. Fairus is an expert in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and has involved in consultancy projects for gas turbine combustion of natural gas for Tenaga Nasioanal Berhad (TNB) Research in 2018 and natural ventilation study for Zeb Technology Pte. Ltd, Singapore in 2015. His expertise in CFD is well delivered in training workshops that was attended by academicians and practising engineers.
