The world’s largest blue star sapphire has been found in Sri Lanka. The rock containing the sapphire weighed around 42 kg, while the gem itself is valued at approximately 1404 carats and estimated to cost upwards of $100 million.
The sapphire’s current owner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, has named it the Star of Adam, after the local belief that Adam lived in Sri Lanka after being banished from the Garden of Eden.
Blue star sapphires are named after the star-shaped patterns found on them.
