CDC warns pregnant women to avoid travel to Brazil due to Zika virus

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued interim travel guidance on Friday for pregnant women and women of childbearing age who are planning to become pregnant, warning against travel to Brazil and 13 other countries in the Americas where the Zika virus has been linked to brain deformities in newborns

An outbreak of the virus is thought to be behind a surge in child deformities in Brazil, and local transmission of the illness — with infected mosquitoes spreading the virus from person to person — has been found in 13 other countries and territories: Colombia, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Suriname, Venezuela and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Read more…
