Services like YouTube largely blamed for the music 'value gap' in new report

Something needs to change in order for the music industry to sustain itself.

The IFPI is officially joining the RIAA and hundreds of artists in calling for serious changes to music copyright laws. 

The music industry is on an upswing for the first time in years. Global music revenues are up 3.2 percent, thanks to digital sales overtaking physical sales as the industry’s primary revenue stream. Streaming revenues are also up 45.2 percent. Even so, though, “there is a fundamental weakness underlying this recovery,” the IFPI wrote in its report.
