Distraught Prince fans transformed into dancing machines at block parties honoring the superstar Thursday night, belting out his hits as they banded together in Brooklyn, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and elsewhere.
The informal gatherings quickly grew in size as word spread through social media. “Let’s Go Crazy” got a massive crowd bumping at a Brooklyn party hosted by Spike Lee. “Purple Rain” induced a singalong complete with waving lit up cellphones. The director, dressed head to toe in purple, advised guests to do the same. Prince, 57, died of unknown causes Thursday morning at his Paisley Park residence in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
