A Delhi church is following in the footsteps of an Indian restaurant in Kochi in starting a free “food ATM” or refrigerator for hungry and thirsty folks caught in the city’s sweltering summer.
Called Share N Care, the fridge was started with the aim of helping the poor and needy in the neighbourhood of Janakpuri in west Delhi, especially the rickshaw drivers and labourers working in the area. Yet, it’s open to anyone passing by the area, and has been especially popular with school children.
Inaugurated by the Mar Gregorious Orthodox church on Apr. 24, the fridge is stocked with sandwiches, fresh fruits and cold water everyday. The three-decade-old church says it plans to run the fridge throughout the summer Read more…
