How the 'Silicon Valley' set stays accurate and up-to-date

At its core, Silicon Valley is a comedy.

But what Richard Toyon and Jennifer Mueller do to help take the show from written scripts to completed episodes isn’t necessarily comedic.

Toyon and Mueller are the show’s production designer and set decorator, respectively, and they’re tasked with creating a set that is as true-to-life as possible, even though it’s for an inherently fictional show. While the popular HBO series — now in the early episodes of its third season — is not truly based in reality, it’s unlike many other popular shows in that it takes place in a very real location, in (more or less) present times, and focuses heavily on the realistic startup tech culture in Silicon Valley, the southern part of San Francisco’s Bay Area that serves as the epicenter of the high-tech gold rush.
