Sometime in 1925, Boston Herald-Traveler photographer Leslie Jones paid a visit to a local husband and wife with a newsworthy story — their newborn infant was their thirteenth child. That made them a bit of an outlier at a time when the average family had around 2.3 kids.

The names and details of the story have been lost, but Jones’ photographs capture the sprawling brood in detail, from the eldest teenage daughters to the new baby. The proud father shows off the children’s array of shoes, and demonstrates how he crams the whole family into their convertible automobile. Read more…
