Following another officer-involved shooting, San Francisco activists have made major headway in what they are calling a “grassroots movement” to shake up the city’s police department.

Embattled San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr, a 30-year veteran, resigned at the request of Mayor Ed Lee Thursday following an early morning shooting of a black woman at the edge of the Bayview district. The death of the woman, who appeared to be driving a stolen car and was not armed, marks the city’s third controversial police killing in the last six months.
