In Overwatch, Blizzard Entertainment — the studio behind World of Warcraft and StarCraft 2 — steps out of its comfort zone and into one of the most competitive markets in the world of video games: first-person shooters.
Specifically, Overwatch is a multiplayer-only first-person shooter with no story mode and a minimal sense of progression. In other words, all of the hooks that help make modern shooter behemoths like Call of Duty so appealing are absent.
And you know what? It’s great.
Overwatch features fast and fluid action that’s balanced around 21 different playable heroes, each of which possess his or her own unique abilities. While they all fill out one of four roles — Offense, Defense, Tank or Support — the particulars of that role differ from hero to hero. Read more…
