While America has been busy arguing over gorillas and Donald Trump, Canada has been embroiled in a controversy over a proposed change to its national anthem.
It would alter just two words in the song, but even that modest proposal has ignited debate in a country that’s just now recovering from an errant elbow by its prime minister.
What’s the proposed change?
Last week, Canada’s House of Commons voted overwhelmingly, 219-79, to approve a minor change in the anthem that would actually have a big impact: it would make the song gender neutral.
