Slain British politician Jo Cox mourned by hundreds of her constituents

A vigil for slain British MP Jo Cox has been held at her constituency town of Birstall, a short walk from the spot where she was fatally shot and stabbed. 

People from different ages, cultures and religious backgrounds took part in the packed ceremony at St. Peter’s Church on Kirkgate. 

Among the 400 participants were Labour MPs Yvette Cooper, Rachel Reeves, Dan Jarvis and Caroline Flint. 

Flowers were laid close to the place where Cox was attacked. 

The Vicar of Birstall, Rev. Paul Knight, said the brutal attack was a reminder of the “fragility of civilisation.” He added that even in times of despair, “there is no escape from the love and mercy of God.”  Read more…
