LOS ANGELES — Divergent’s final film reportedly may skip the big screen.
Ascendant, the final installment in Lionsgate’s dystopian franchise, may instead launch as a television movie followed by a spinoff series.
The studio declined to comment. However, sources familiar with the situation told Variety that Lionsgate is exploring the alternative method of distribution.
The franchise, based on the best-selling books by Veronica Roth, has had a shaky box office track record.
The latest film, The Divergent Series: Allegiant, launched with a weak $29 million, falling short of Insurgent’s $52.3 million opening in 2015 and Divergent’s $54.6 million in 2014. Read more…
