The sculpture of Lucille Ball known as “Scary Lucy” has officially terrified its last residents in Ball’s hometown of Celoron, New York.
In its place is a new bronze statue — this time wrought by sculptor Carolyn Palmer, who won a competition to create it last year.
The replacement comes after years of complaints that the original statue — which admittedly resembles a horror villain — was too “frightening.” Even the original sculptor, Dave Poulin, didn’t disagree.
“From the day of its installation, I have shared my disappointment in the final outcome and have always believed it to be by far my most unsettling sculpture,” Poulin wrote in a letter to the Hollywood Reporter. Read more…
