An explosion in the historic district of Sultanahmet, close to the Blue Mosque, in Istanbul, has left 10 dead and many others wounded, the governor’s office has confirmed.
The explosion, which took place near the obelisk of Theodosius was strong enough to be heard in nearby neighborhoods, according to CNN Turk.
An investigation has started to determine who was behind the attack. Local media outlets have reported that it was likely caused by a suicide bomber.
