Amazon and Netflix are off the Sundance schneid.
The streaming networks — both shut out from acquiring movies at at Sundance last year, despite major efforts to do so — have each picked up and debuted big titles at the ongoing fest. And neither waited for the post-premiere late-night bidding wars to do it.
Amazon Studios partnered with Roadside Attractions to acquire Love & Friendship earlier this week, ahead of its Sundance debut on Saturday night. It’s the second partnership between the distributors that put Amazon’s first feature, Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq, in U.S. theaters and on Prime last year.
