Egyptian protesters again demanded the resignation of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi on Friday after the former general handed Saudi Arabia two islands that had been under Egyptian control since 1950.
Sisi announced the deal only after it was over, drawing criticism for not involving Parliament in the negotiation.
The islands of Tiran and Sanafir are uninhabited, located around the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba.
Egyptians have claimed Sisi violated their rights to make decisions about the nation’s land, while Sisi says he acted on behalf of “the rights of others,” since Egypt did not always have jurisdiction over the islands. Read more…
