LONDON — Commuters in London are being asked to disobey one of the key rules of the Underground: Keeping to the right on escalators to allow others to walk down them. And predictably they are having none of it. 

Transport for London (TfL) is trialling the new “standing only” rule for three weeks at Holborn Tube station in a bid to improve congestion and stop bottlenecks. Under the new regime, passengers are asked not to walk up two escalators at the busy station.

A similar experiment in November 2015 reduced queuing by 30%.  Read more…
