Back in 2012, BBC Two presented the first installment of The Hollow Crown — a splashy adaptation of Shakespeare’s second series of history-based plays. Now the network is following that up with another cycle of TV movies based on Shakespeare’s first series of histories: The War of the Roses, which covers everything from Henry VI to Richard III.
The latter character will be played by Benedict Cumberbatch — seen in action for the first time in this new trailer. The clip shows Richard plotting and conniving, giving us a glimpse of his bloodthirsty battle for power.
The Hollow Crown is part of a bigger celebration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. It doesn’t yet have a premiere date. Read more…
