The fate of the faces on America’s currency may finally be decided after months of voting, speculation and debate that pitted supporters of Alexander Hamilton against women who were fighting for a spot on a bill.
Politico reported on Wednesday that Harriet Tubman, a well-known “conductor” on the Underground Railroad, would replace controversial President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. Alexander Hamilton, meanwhile, would stay on the front of the $10.
But there’s just one problem.
Treasury Secretary Jack Lew originally promised a woman would be on the $10 — which is currently up for a redesign — while the newly designed $20 featuring Tubman may not be in the pipeline until 2030. Read more…
