Google Doodle celebrates the 90th anniversary of Indian cartoonist Mario Miranda

Google marked the 90th birth anniversary of celebrated Indian cartoonist Mario Miranda with a doodle that pays homage to his characteristically complex, crowded and nuanced scenes.

Miranda drew inspiration from the bustling city of Mumbai, drawing multi-layered scenes of dense humanity, which were detailed and managed to retain the individual quirks of each person. The Google doodle made by comic artist Aaron Reiner, known for his fascination with crowds, draws upon this aspect.

“That is what I liked most about his work,” Renier explained in a blog post, “trying to pick out who knows who, who’s watching who, who’s annoyed by who, who’s enamored by who. Hopefully people will see something of [Miranda’s] spirit in it.” Read more…
