LONDON — In the midst of the shock and grief over the shooting death of Labour MP Jo Cox, people are sharing her maiden speech to Parliament in which she celebrates diversity.

Cox was shot and stabbed in her constituency in West Yorkshire by a lone gunman, and died of her injuries in hospital. Police are working to confirm the attacker’s motive.

Cox was known as a campaigner for social justice, and had worked with Oxfam and other charities. She was also campaigning for Britain to remain in Europe. 

In her maiden speech to Parliament, she embraced immigration and diversity. “Our communities have been deeply enhanced by immigration, be it of Irish Catholics across the constituency or of Muslims from Gujarat in India or from Pakistan, principally from Kashmir,” she said. Read more…
