Star Wars: The Force Awakens took place some 30 years after Return of the Jedi — and not even a 30-hour movie could have filled in all the gaps in our favorite characters’ histories.

One question we’ve had for some time is this: Given that Princess Leia was revealed in Jedi to be a Force-sensitive Skywalker, how come we didn’t see any of her abilities on display in Force Awakens? Was she just too busy being a politician and general? Did she ever even try to be a Jedi?

We have the beginnings of an answer now, thanks to this exclusive extract from Star Wars Aftermath: Life Debt by Chuck Wendig.
