Acer refreshes Chromebook, announces all-in-one 'Chromebase'

LAS VEGAS — It took a few years, but people are finally embracing lightweight Chrome OS-powered devices where the documents and files are mostly stored in the cloud as opposed to locally.

Acer added two new Chrome OS-powered additions to its computer lineup at CES 2016: the Chromebook 11 for on-the-go computing and the Chromebase 24, an all-in-one desktop computer for stationed use.

The Chromebook 11 is your typical budget Chromebook constructed out of plastic. It sure as hell ain’t sexy, but it’s durable — Acer says the lid can withstand 132 pounds of pressure — and just powerful enough to handle web browsing, streaming movies and videos, banging out a few work documents and other non-intensive tasks.
