The periodic table of elements just got four new members, thereby completing its seventh and currently last row.
The four new elements — with the atomic numbers 113, 115, 117 and 118 — were announced on Dec. 30 by scientists after the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) verified the discoveries. The scientists from the United States, Japan and Russia who discovered the new elements will now work to come up with names and two-letter symbols for the new elements
An element’s atomic number indicates the number of protons in its nucleus — the higher the number, the heavier the atom. Read more…
