Volkswagen’s response to its diesel emissions scandal has been grudging throughout — slowly announcing multiple recalls, running oblique ads — and now the Environmental Protection Agency is slamming the company with a lawsuit in part for its obstructive approach to cooperating with the agency
The lawsuit, filed by the Department of Justice on behalf of the EPA, also gets an assist from California, a state with strict emissions laws that Volkswagen allegedly violated
The complaint alleges that the maker of Porsche and Audi violated the Clean Air Act by installing illegal “defeat devices” that created “harmful air pollution” and would mislead officials and consumers about how much dirty air the cars created. Read more…
