Major League Gaming, North America’s biggest esports-focused network, has been snapped up by Activision to bolster its own competitive gaming business and create the “ESPN of esports.”
Activision acquired all of MLG’s assets and staff, it was announced Monday. Leaks of the acquisition dropped on New Year’s Eve on blog eSports Observer, though MLG has told Mashable most of the details are incorrect.
“We are buying MLG to continue to build out what the company has been doing: expanding esports and pushing it into a mainstream media network,” said Mike Sepso, SVP of Activision’s esports division and, originally, co-founder of MLG. “This helps us get there much more quickly, brings us a unparalleled team of expertise.” Read more…
