The Faculty is honored to host Distinguished Prof. Dr. Kotohiro Nomura from Tokyo Metropolitan University as part of the collaboration with Dr. Naharullah Jamaluddin from the Department of Chemistry, UTM.

The visit started with the Faculty of Science Seminar Series, held on 11 August 2025 at UTM HELIxS C17, featuring Prof. Nomura and Dr. Naharullah. The seminar on “Redefining Plastics: Innovations Toward a Sustainable Future”, which was co-hosted with UiTM Sarawak, introduced two exciting approaches: designing bio-based polyesters that can be chemically recycled and synthesizing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) using deep eutectic solvents (DES) with choline chloride as the hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA). Both approaches reflect the spirit of the circular economy and green innovation in polymer science.

Prof. Nomura also had the chance to meet the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shafinaz Shahir, followed by a discussion with the Faculty management, on the future collaborative activities between the Faculty of Science UTM and Tokyo Metropolitan University.
