Dr. Noraliani Alias obtained her Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1999 and M.Eng (Hydrology and Water Resources) in 2003  from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).  She completed her PhD from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia in 2013 in the area of Urban Water Quality. She started her academic career as a Tutor in UTM in 2001 before appointed as Lecturer in 2005. Currently, she is a Senior Lecturer of Department of Hydraulic and Hydrology, Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM.

As a lecturer, Dr. Noraliani Alias is really passionate in delivering the knowledge to the students. She teaches Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics and Hydrology for undergraduate level and Integrated Water Resources Management  for postgraduate level. In terms of supervision, Dr. Noraliani Alias supervised 19 Undergraduate Projects (successfully completed) and 2 Master Students (Taught Course). Currently, she supervised 2 undergraduate students and one master student will register in September 2016.

Dr. Noraliani Alias involvement in research is really amazing as she secured one  TRGS and FRGS grants since 2015 with total funding of RM240,400.00.  She was also invited as a visiting Scientist under JSPS Asian Core Program supported by  JSPS (Japan Society for Promotion of Science) and MOHE (Ministry of Higher Education) to Kyoto University in 2015. In terms of publication, she already published 12 papers and 2 of the papers were published in Q1 journals.
