Our Site Visit to Jiblon Paradise Kuala Langat, Selangor

As it has been a nature to our landscape architecture program, our so-called laboratory is beyond the compound of walls. One of them is to utilise the outdoor spaces as our study cases, which aim to engage people in our planning and design thinking process.

Jiblon Paradise or Ciblon is our second site project for the 2nd year of SBEZ 2505 – Park and Community Design in SPACE program studio. It is remarkable to know that this site has offered a lot of interesting elements to our learning and teaching activities. Despite its location adjacent to Paya Indah Wetland, it hasn’t received a well treatment as its counterpart. Issues such as sand mining as well as commercial agricultural activities in the nearby area, have threatened the beauty and ecological values that are embedded in this lovely place.

These are some of the important points that need to be addressed by the students whilst integrating the approach of blue and green infrastructure in their design exercise. As educators, one of our roles is to ensure our students strongly embrace the concept of stewardship in protecting our environment via their understanding and design thinking.

Self Introductory

I have been joining the Landscape Architecture Programme, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as an academic in 2020. I  graduated my PhD studies from Department of Landscape Architecture, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2019. Prior to this,  I  received my BA Hons in Landscape Architecture (2010) and Master of Architecture (2013) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

My Ph.D. research was looking into an integration of public participatory in GIS and urban heritage preservation as part of empowering community’s engagement in decision-making process. Thus, this reflects my research’s interests as an academic and researcher in UTM.
