Bismillah2

In the Name of ALLAH, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

Dr. Zarina is a senior lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences (Jabatan Sains Matematik – JSM), Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She started her career at UTM on 2nd November 1996 as a tutor at the then Department of Mathematics and furthered her studies at Master & PhD levels in the United Kingdom in the areas of Statistics before being promoted to a senior lecturer in 2007.

She has a great passion in teaching statistics courses to either full-time or part-time undergraduate students, across UTM. In addition, Dr. Zarina has also had an experience in teaching Mathematical Statistics and Research Methodology at a Master level. Up to date, she has facilitated three Data Analysis using SPSS workshops, organized by Postgraduate Students Society (PGSS) from Electrical, Civil and Science faculties.   Her research interest has been focused on survival or failure-time modelling and analysis. Nonetheless, she has also been involved in other research areas related to a broader statistical modelling and analysis.

Dr. Zarina has supervised eight PhD students since 2010, five of whom have graduated and the other three are making good progress in the areas of failure time modelling and multinomial robust regression. Dr. Zarina has also supervised two M.Sc (Mathematics) by research students, one of whom graduated in 2015 (main supervised) and the other (co-supervised) of whom is still in progress. Since 2005, she has supervised 11 dissertations for M.Sc (Mathematics) by mixed-mode, of which 10 have been primarily supervised and one has been co-supervised.

From 1st March 2014 until 28th February 2015, Dr. Zarina had an opportunity to do her one-year industrial internship at the Clinical Research Centre, Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Bahru (CRC-HSIJB). During this internship, she did a research on modeling the survival time of neonates admitted at the HSI Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) using a set of retrospective HSIJB-NICU data. The research has been approved by National Medical Research Register (NMRR), Ministry of Health, Malaysia. The experience she gained during the internship is tremendously useful & helpful in enhancing her views and strategy for better learning & teaching activities, as well as for driving forward her research & publication efforts.

May ALLAH Subhanahu wa Ta’ala helps & guides her to the RIGHT path of excellence, and grants her patience in facing her qada’ and qadar.
