Dr. Zanariah Hashim received her PhD from Osaka University, Japan in the field of Biotechnology in 2014. Since then, she has been appointed as a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She previously worked as a R&D engineer at Nitto Denko Electronics (M), where she was assigned to work on the formulation and testing of new epoxy resins used for semiconductor applications. During her graduate studies, Dr. Zanariah was trained in metabolomics, focusing on the analysis and identification of small molecules found from various samples including microbes, plant and animal cells. She also has first-hand experience in developing analysis protocol and routine maintenance of analytical instrument such as LC-MS and GC-MS. Among her past and current research projects are: food quality analysis using chemometric approach; formulation, quality improvement and characterization of food products and herbal extracts; and metabolite profiling of microbial and plant cells.
She holds a Professional Engineer certification from Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and Professional Technologist from Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT). She is also a certified Registered Energy Manager (REM) Type 2 under the Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) Malaysia.
