What is the different between impact factor and Quartile? In your opinion, how to increase the impact factor or Quartile? Explain by giving some example from your research area.
Impact factor (IF) is a measurement of the average number of citations to recent publications which indexed in Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports (JCR). To note that, not all indexed journals, as mentioned previously indexing by Scopus, MedLine, SCIRUS, PubMed, EBSCO, Caspur, DOAJ, Pro Quest, Open J Gate, ISI and etc, are indexed in Thomson Reuters JCR. Meanwhile Quartile is the fourth division of IF into 25 % each; Quartile 1 is the top 25 % of IF distribution and Quartile 4 is the lowest 25 % of IF distribution, and Quartile 2 and 3 are the middle-high and middle-low for IF distribution position, respectively.
In order to increase the value of IF and Quartile of a journal indexed in Thomson Reuters JCR, each publication must cite the publications published by the same journal on the previous year and two years before. By citing the publications of that respective journal would add the value of IF and Quartile measurements for that journal. The algorithm to calculate IF is as follow: IF2019= (Citations2018 + Citations2017)/(Publications2018 + Publications2018). The number of citations and publications from the year before and two years before would affect the calculation of IF in the current year for that journal.
