Hobby and ambition…exploring the vision and passion of a person..

At the beginning of a class I often pose these 2 questions as part of introduction. Usually it will bring an unsure smile and amaze look in students. What kinds of question are these?  Many of them unsure and often resort to general answer such as “I want to be succesful”   “a manager”   and for hobbies some do not have one or may be feel uncool to let people know. But, as you let them be themselves they started to share what they like to do during their free time. These two questions although seem to be trivial but they reveal the students’ vision and passion. I told them in life all of us need to have some sort of vision where we would like to go or what we would like to be. This vision needs passion. If you love baking so much and you wanted to start a business, baking can be one of the business that you can pursue. Vision show what to pursue while passion gives you motivation and perseverance to carry out your vision. Bodyshop started with vision and it is still around due to the passion of it’s founder Anita Roddick for ethical consumerism.
