This year the students from UTM, Korea and Indonesia have gathered at the Creativity Station 2016 in Bandung to help the community using their engineering skills. Some of the products are Rabbit Cage “Starhouse”, “Poo Poo Mixer” for composting, “Rolling Dolling” for keeping the dolls, “I-Chu Box” a freezer, “Samyang Cutter” to cut aluminum foil, “icubit” an innovative incubator for rabbit and a few others.
This year has marked the 5th year anniversary of Creativity Station. UTM has participated in Creativity Station for the fifth time since 2013 and hosted it last year in Punggai Johor. Telkom University is the host for this year’s event. The uniqueness of this program is that it mixed three countries in one roof, and make engineering as community service. Global engineers shall have an attribute that love to contribute to the society and able to mix with other culture to achieve the ultimate goal.
We have finally selected the final participants for Creativity Station 2016, which will be held in Bandung, Indonesia on the 2nd – 12th August 2016. Congratulations to all selected students!
Creativity Station 2015 in Kampung Punggai Johor has been successfully organized by the Centre of Engineering Education UTM with collaboration Pusan National University Korea and Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya Indonesia. This year, total of 61 students participating in this program from 14 different universities from Malaysia, Korea and Indonesia.
20 UTM students participated in this program from FKK, FPREE, FKA, FKE, FKM and FP.
During the 9 days program, the students have been introduced to a service learning program to solve local problems/issues. 10 products have been designed and installed in Kampung Punggai which include fish cart, fish dryer, trash picker, smart trash car, multipurpose cleaner, coconut cart, rainwater harvesting system, coconut squeezer, trash-bin with flies trap and multipurpose study table.
Other activities such as team building, finding local issues, balloon art, finding engineering in culture, fruit party were also included in this program to let the participants enjoy and get to know each other’s culture.
On 5th June 2015, we have given the opportunity to visit one of the biggest project by Petronas which is RAPID Pengerang. We have a short discussion with Ir. Adnan the possibilities for our program Creativity Station 2015 to visit the site in August.
Photos from our visit with Ir. Adnan. With Dr. Fadzil, Prof. Seo, Jiin, Pak Dwiki, Pak Subhan and Nabila.
Facts about RAPID Project
Malaysian oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) is developing a refinery and petrochemical integrated development project (RAPID) and other associated facilities in Pengerang, Southern Johor, Malaysia, through a project called Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC).
Launched in May 2012, PIC is part of the larger Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) proposed by the Johor State Government. Total investment for the PIPC project is approximately RM97bn ($27bn), of which the RAPID project costs RM57bn ($16bn) and the associated facilities require RM40bn ($11bn).
Southern Johor was chosen as the location for the project due to its proximity to deepwater port facilities and regional demand centres. The location enables easy transport of finished products to the market. The complex will cover an area of 2,000ha and includes a 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) crude oil refinery and a petrochemical complex. These two projects together will produce 7.7mtpa of differentiated and specialty chemicals such as synthetic rubbers and high-grade polymers.
The RAPID project refinery will produce gasoline and diesel which will meet Euro 4 and Euro 5 fuel specifications. It will also supply feedstock for the petrochemical complex which will produce highly-specialised chemicals. The refinery will use modern technologies to produce these products and follow stringent environmental regulations.
5th May 2015: 20 students have been selected for participating in Creativity Station 2015 in Punggai Johor. The selection was based on the student’s participation in a Marshmallow Tower Challenge. Students were given a task to build a tower by using spaghetti, tape and string. They were selected based on their team work and involvement in the group.
