Department Meeting with Dr. Malik

27th August – The department and faculty was very delighted with the visit from Dr. Malik from Lincoln University, New Zealand. The discussion was held very brief and informal, such as the future research and student exchange programme.

International Food Safety and Security Workshop 2015

FSS workshop

On 26th August 2015, an International Food Safety and Security Workshop 2015 has been organized by Food and Biomaterial Engineering Research Group (FoBERG) in collaboration with Asia-Pacific Institute Food Professionals (APIFP). The one-day workshop was held in UTM involving about 50 participants from local universities and professionals. The speakers were Prof. William Riley, Dr. Malik Altaf, Prof Dr. Ida Idayu and Mr. Andy Seet.

Creativity Station 2015 in Kampung Punggai Johor

16th – 24th August 2015, Kampung Punggai Johor

Creativity Station 2015 in Kampung Punggai Johor has been successfully organized by the Centre of Engineering Education UTM with collaboration Pusan National University Korea and Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya Indonesia. This year, total of 61 students participating in this program from 14 different universities from Malaysia, Korea and Indonesia.

20 UTM students participated in this program from FKK, FPREE, FKA, FKE, FKM and FP.

During the 9 days program, the students have been introduced to a service learning program to solve local problems/issues. 10 products have been designed and installed in Kampung Punggai which include fish cart, fish dryer, trash picker,smart trash car, multipurpose cleaner, coconut cart, rainwater harvesting system, coconut squeezer, trash-bin with flies trap and multipurpose study table.

Other activities such as team building, finding local issues, balloon art, finding engineering in culture, fruit party were also included in this program to let the participants enjoy and get to know each other’s culture.

Workshop on “An Introduction to Responsible Conduct in Research”

10th – 11th August  – A workshop on “An Introduction to Responsible Conduct in Research” organized by Akademi Sains Malaysia and US National Academy of Science was held at the MARTRADE Tower Kuala Lumpur. The workshop was handled by professional facilitators from US National Academy of Sciences; Dr. Alistair Hay, Dr. Elizabeth Heitman, Dr. James Stith, Dr. Lida Anestidou and Dr. Jay Labov. The participants were introduced to several case studies involving responsible conduct in research, various methods on teaching (active learning, etc) and we were given opportunities to discuss in the group and present our ideas.

WORKSHOP DEMAND DRIVEN INNOVATION PROJECT BY PPRN

UTM Technology Entrepreneurship Centre (UTMTEC) in cooperation with Ministry of Education (Entrepreneurship Unit) has organized a workshop “Demand-Driven Project by Public Private Research Network” on 29th July 2015 (Wednesday), starting from 0800 (Registration) till 1700 at Dewan Perdana, Le Grandeur Resort, Senai (formerly known as Sofitel Hotel). A briefing from Datin Dr. Syahirah Hamidon (Ketua Penolong Setiausaha Kanan, Unit Keusahawanan, Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia) regarding  PPRN and its involvement with the University’s Entrepreneurship Centre starting this year has been given.
Furthermore, entrepreneurs from different industries were invited to share and facilitate their problems with the researchers. Funding from the MoE will be given to selected entrepreneurs and the researchers who won during the bidding process.

6 Jun; Kejohanan Olahraga UTM telah berlangsung pada Sabtu lepas (6/6/2015). PTJ gabungan FKK + IBD + FPREE telah menghantar seramai 10 orang atlet (6 lelaki, 4 wanita). Walaupun kali ini hanya 10 orang atlet sahaja dapat menyertai kejohanan kali ini, tetapi PTJ gabungan ini tetap gah dan menyinar dengan memperolehi 5 pingat emas, 3 pingat perak dan 3 pingat gangsa. Saya selaku pengurus olahraga bersama dengan Dr Asmadi dengan ini mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi tahniah dan terima kasih kepada semua atlet dan juga para penyokong yang hadir memberi sokongan pada PTJ gabungan kita. Senarai penuh keputusan adalah seperti berikut:
