2-4 December 2025 | In Malaysia, anyone who wants to operate a drone for mapping or any photography work must have a proper certification to show they can operate it safely and follow the national rules and regulations. Sijil Kompetensi Operasi Drone (SKOD) is one of the mandatory recognising certifications for an operator’s competency in the safe handling and operation of drones for UAV mapping.
The Centre for Real Estate Studies (CRES), Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, UTM recently organised the SKOD certification course at UTM from 2–4 December, providing essential training for academic staffs and students who needs to operate drones safely and legally for mapping or other professional work.
The SKOD programme is conducted by ADTEC JTM Kampus Mersing, formally known as Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) Mersing under the Department of Human Resources, Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA). It ensures that operators comply with the national aviation regulations set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) for professional drone applications, including mapping, surveillance, inspection and related operations.
