A sabbatical leave is granted to the eligible faculty member. In my case, after holding the administrative posts in the university for almost 10 years, I’ve been given a sabbatical leave from 1 April until 31 December 2021 (9 months). This means that I’ve been release from normal academic duties in order to advance my research, write books and article journals.
Sabbatical leave does not mean you are on holiday! You have to meet the set KPIs. For me, it’s like doing a “mini” PhD in a shorter period of time. But I am not complaining since I’m able to spend more time with my children at home. It’s a win-win situation
The KPIs are based on certain categories. I’ve chosen “Category B” therefore my KPIs are (1) An original book, and (2) Two journal articles & conference presentations. But not to worry, I’m sure you will end up producing more than two journal articles.

Please inform and discuss with your Dean as early as possible – so that it does not interfere with faculty planning involving staff arrangements.
