Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, I adopted Cognitivism, Constructivism, and Connectivism as my learning theories. I am choosing the theories as I believe, in this century, critical thinking skills, self-knowledge understanding, and access to online resources through related technologies are vital. I have vast working experience in the industry; thus, it is the time I have to share my knowledge with others. Furthermore, I see my role as a facilitator, and mentor, empowering students to become active, critical thinkers and lifelong learners. I also want to cultivate an intense fighting spirit for students to succeed in their future and continuously improve themselves to become great humans.

At the beginning of each semester, I inform my students about my teaching style for them to prepare well for class activities that I will conduct throughout the semester. The topics I must cover with the assignment and project group will also be discussed during the session. Not only that, I also let them know that I require them to be active during each lesson by asking questions and discussing related issues that can be related to a topic. I utilize independent learningto expand students capabilities by commanding them to create a group to discuss complex problems and share their findings and opinions.

I frequently provide related material through interactive teaching tools and experiential learning opportunities. To achieve these, I constantly share with my students the related forums, social media channels, and websites that they can join and access. Accessing all these channels helps them constantly be updated with recent knowledge. Using real-world examples is essential in my subject to ensure students are exposed to real situations and know how to handle actual and complicated scenarios. Aside from that, once students complete their studies, it gives them higher chances to work with a reputable company where they can adopt the knowledge gained in the class at the industry level.

To monitor student performance, I ensure my students comprehend the related theories before proceeding with hands-on exercises and labs that simulate real-world scenarios. I always believe that practical labs are key for students to gain a decent understanding. Hence, several topics and lab exercises, known as vulnerability assessments, network design with analysis, penetration testing, group projects, reporting, and presentations, are the crucial areas that I need to cover. I use formative assessments to recognize students limitations, especially regarding group projects and reporting. This approach can effectively monitor and evaluate student comprehension regarding theories and hands-on labs I gave during class.

My primary teaching goal is cultivating proficient ethical hackers who can identify and address computer and network security vulnerabilities. I aspire to see my students demonstrate a deep understanding of penetration testing methodologies, a mastery of relevant tools, and the ability to conduct thorough and ethical security assessments.
