Summary
Assistant Dean (External & Global Engagement). Former Deputy Director of UTM Office of Corporate Affairs, skillful in branding and communication. PhD in Education from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Specialised in applied drama in English language learning, and reflective practice. Native speaker English Language lecturer and teacher trainer with close to twenty years’ teaching experience teaching and managing students, including experience overseas as language tutor for students from diverse nationalities and age groups. Earned Bachelor of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from University of Exeter, UK, awarded Master of Education (TESL) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia. Tutored for the Bachelor of Education (TESL) Degree program for Universiti Putra Malaysia, and the various English language modules for Open University Malaysia. Now a senior lecturer in the Language Academy, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia teaching university English proficiency courses and training undergraduate teachers in TESL.
Earthquake survivor, and experienced in crisis management and coordinating relief efforts between Education Malaysia New Zealand and postgraduate student society.

Manage faculty’s engagement with international relationships, both university and corporate. Organise MOU/MOA/LOC/LOI agreements and activities between faculty, university and external parties. Coordinate community and corporate engagement with faculty and university. Direct branding efforts of faculty in alignment with university branding and vision. Manage and mentor officers and staff under charge, and other duties that arise from time to time.

Manage association programmes for Malaysia. Coordinate Malaysia programmes with APRA central, and APRA chapters around the world.

Deputy Director, Office of Corporate Affairs (Corporate Communication and Branding)

Coordinate and monitor the university’s corporate communications activities, including event management, and social and mass media engagement, in both Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur campuses. Manage and coordinate the publication of university annual report and Cabinet memorandums. Coordinate and monitor the implementation of branding the university. Coordinate Creative Media Unit in the preparation of image / video / graphics for use by the university. Responsible for the promotional activities / corporate publishing / branding of the university. Assist in the planning of university’s development and social responsibility. Coordinate information on UTM website and social media, as well as being part of the management tea of marketing and promotional activities via the UTM website. Edit speeches and statements by Vice-Chancellor, VVIPs and ministers for events related to the university, as well as edit outgoing legal documents, and other editing duties that relate to corporate communication. Managed correspondence and filing for society. Assisted president in running of society. Coordinated relief efforts with Education Malaysia New Zealand and the Malaysian Embassy during and after the Canterbury Earthquake in August 2010 and the Christchurch Earthquake in February 2011. Prepared reports on earthquake crisis and crisis management for CLUMP to send to Education Malaysia, as well as the Malaysian Embassy.

Attended teacher in-services and staff meetings, maintaining strong relationships with fellow staff and administrators. Managed Lower 6 and Upper 6 classes and class teacher, liaising between students, parents, and the administration. Helped raise SPM School English scores from 72% passes to 94% passes in 2004, and helped maintain good school track record throughout 2005.

Devised up-to-date curriculum based on syllabus provided by Ministry, planned panel activities throughout entire year, and managed panel budget.

Social Assistant at Canterbury Christ Church University

Worked as part of a four-man crew, working in rotation. Job description included taking care of welfare of international students, working as liaison officers between students and administration. Additional responsibilities included airport pickups, foster family distribution, planning and implementing social events, and troubleshooting any likely problems that may occur. International student charges varied from diverse nationalities including French, Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic of various ages, from 16 until 40.
• Tutored English effectively to international students during tenure as social assistant.
