To my FM student, today class will discuss about the reality of FM industry.

The senses of community

McMillan & Chavis in Talen (1999) have identified six elements of sense of community namely share the emotional connection, neighbourhood or place attachment, sense of place, group community, reinforcement and membership. These elements are relevant to be promoted towards enhancing the SOC in Malaysia. Definitely, the facilities manager can contribute by integrating their roles with the above-mentioned elements. For example, by enhancing the needs of parents (as residents) for a child care centre is actually promoting better social interaction among residents which lead in strengthening the sense of community. Nevertheless, lack of research that integrate the role of facilities management with the importance of the sense of community, especially in Malaysia
