Biology Outreach Program for primary school children

Biology Outreach Programme, or known as Biology Week 2017 was conducted on the last October 14, 2017, held in Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulai Perdana, Skudai, Johor. Our group was the first representative from Asia continent to receive the grant from Royal Society of Biology (RSB) led by Dr Norazimah Mohd Zin, and was the first outreach event in school done in Malaysia under RSB programme.

The aim of the program is to disseminate information of Biology to the primary school children, to get people aware of the subject and embrace their enthusiasm towards it. Among the activities, showcasing  biosciences materials is the most exciting part. They include the area of Microbiology, Nanoscience, Basic Fermentation, Basic Biochemistry and Introduction to Plant. In my group we showcase the nanoscience modules to provide understanding and concept of nano through easy experimentation, compatible to the student’s level. The topics include:

  1. “Explore the sizes: Smelly ballons”,
    • Exploring how to detect things that too small to see
  2. “Explore the tools- Mystery of the form”
    • Learning how researcher use special tools to detect and make image with nanoscale objects
  3. “Draw a circuit”
    • Exploring: Can a pencil conduct electricity?
  4. “Exploring Size- Powers of the games”
    • Learning that things in the universe come in different sizes.  The objects on the cards are organized according to powers of ten.
  5. Ballon nanotubes- Giant hanging model.
    • Learning on carbon nanotubes, CNT (materials that I am working on now) is another nano-related material, and how you can visualize the tiny shape of CNT in a bigger model using balloon

The pictures of the whole activities can be seen below..

Last meetup with my first batch mentees

They were in the last semester upon finishing their BSc. In the pictures it was 26 of them (several of them could not attend) at KFC Aeon Taman Universiti during iftar Ramadan 2017.

Thanks for the wonderful experience..I wish you have a joyful life and bright future wherever it takes you..

Bengkel “Transdermal Drug Delivery Study using Franz Diffusion Cell”

New year resolution

Losing weight, self improvement and having quality time with family and friends has always become the top resolution for most people when  new year is around the corner. But do you know how many people achieved this? According to one study from University of Scranton, a private uni in Pennsylvania, only 8% achieved their resolution.

Why do you think that so many people failed? What is the the secret of those who are succeed?

That is because we probably not good at goal setting. The key is to keep the list simple, short and more relevant, and of course write it down more specifically!

If you want 2017 to be your year….

  •  Don’t just sit on the couch and wait for it-
  • GO OUT- Make a change-
  • Smile more
  • Be excited
  • Throw away what you have been cluttering
  • UNFOLLOW NEGATIVE PEOPLE on social media and live a life!
  • Go to BED EARLY WAKE UP early
  • Don’t gossip
  • Show more gratitude
  • Do things that challenge you
  • …..and Be BRAVE!

A reminder for me too..=) Have a great day ahead!

The beauty of carbon

Hello everyone. I found this beautiful short story from my random search on carbon..

The sheikh asked me “What is the cheapest rock on this planet?”; I replied “Coal”

“And what is the most expensive?” I replied Diamonds.

The sheikh answered “And what are both made of?” I answered “Carbon.”

He continued, “That’s right and do you know what the only difference between those two? Pressure.

Pressure created beautiful things and when Allah swt tests you with difficult situations it is because he wants to shape you into the most beautiful things possible.

May you have great days ahead and Happy new year!
